Kids need adults who care. That’s why people join Kiwanis clubs. The Southwest District of Kiwanis International includes 82 clubs and nearly 2,000 members across Arizona and New Mexico. Every year we serve nearly 200,000 kids with thousands of volunteer hours.
The Southwest District of Kiwanis strives to make the world a better place one child and one community at a time. By giving back we not only work towards this mission but do so with friends, family, and fellow Kiwanians. Beyond our direct service we are a part of the Kiwanis Family bringing people together, across generations, from elementary school through K-Kids to adults with developmental in Aktion Club. Kiwanians strive to help others develop a sense of community through service. Kiwanis allows everyone to grow as people, develop leadership skills, and make lifelong connections in a supportive environment.
Across the Arizona and New Mexico, Kiwanians are involved in their communities. Since 1963 the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe has hosted Zozobra. A celebration of the end of summer attended by thousands every year. The highlight of Zozobra is the burning of Zozobra, also known as Old Man Gloom, who is a massive marionette crafted from joss paper to take away the stress, worries, and pain of the past year. Though this is one of, if not the, the largest events hosted by a Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Clubs host or participate in events nearly every week of the year.
