Southwest District Contests & Awards

Every year our Kiwanis Clubs do great work and the District wants to recognize and celebrate their efforts! Awards are submitted and awarded for the prior Kiwanis service year. For example, at the 2024 District Convention we will be honoring Clubs for activities during Gov. Mary’s year (2023-2024). Please jumpstart on obtain the info needed for submissions so when the links are open you are way ahead.

Interclub Awards:

  1. All rules for interclubs as stated in the Southwest District By-Laws apply. The number of members required to attend an interclub depends on the size of your club. See chart below to determine how many members must attend.
  2. Please report all interclub visitations made by your club during the course of the year by using this submission form. Deadline date for submission will be June 30, 2025.
  3. There are three recognition categories (see rules for each below).
  4. Be sure to contact the host club in advance to receive confirmation that the host club will meeting at the stipulated time and place. Many clubs only meet twice per month now locations shift. NO INTERCLUB VISITATION CREDIT APPLIES TO THE HOST CLUB.
  5. In addition to visits made to a host club’s regular meeting time and place, meetings hosted the District Convention, Midyear Conference, Governor’s Visit, Council Meetings, or actively participating in the host club’s service projects (does not include fundraiser events) will qualify as an interclub.
  6. SWD policy was modified to include qualifying visits to a SLP club. Please indicate if the visit was with a SLP.

Required Number of Members in Attendance:

For clubs having a membership of twenty (20) or less members, a minimum of two (2) members in attendance will be required to constitute an Interclub meeting.

For clubs having a membership of twenty-one (21) to thirty (30) members, a minimum of three (3) members in attendance will be required to constitute an Interclub meeting.

For clubs having a membership of thirty-one (31) or more members, a minimum of four (4) members in attendance will be required to constitute an Interclub meeting.

Interclub Recognition Categories:

INNER CIRCLE: A club must visit each club within the division in the course of the twelve-month Kiwanis year at a regular meeting or when the club to be visited is the host at a division, district, or international meeting or by actively participating in the host service projects (does not include fund raiser events). A visit is not required for clubs opened in the division in July, August, or September in order to earn the Circle Award.

MIDDLE CIRCLE: A club must visit seven (7) different divisions, in addition to their own, in the course of the twelve-month Kiwanis year with two or more Kiwanians. Choices of which divisions to visit are up to the individual club. Completion of the Inner Circle Award is also required to receive this award.

OUTER CIRCLE: A club must visit all of the other fifteen (15) divisions, as well as completing the Inner Circle Award in their own division, in the course of the twelve-month Kiwanis year with two or more Kiwanians.


Club Bulletin Contest:

Club bulletins from October 1 to May 31 will be judged based on content (Kiwanis interest, information, etc.), appearance, regularity of publication and method of delivery. Submit two (2) copies of the three best issues. One copy will be used for the judging and the second will be displayed at the convention.
Bulletin awards are based on the size of the clubs.

White Division with 30 or less members;
Blue Division with 31–45 members;
Orange Division with 46–70 members;
Gold Division with 71 or more members.


Club Brochure Contest:

If your club publishes a brochure which is used for recruiting new members you are encouraged to enter it in the Brochure Competition. Submit two (2) copies. One copy will be used for the judging and the second will be displayed at convention.

Club Scrapbook Contest:

If your club maintains a scrapbook contact Rose Ann Haw to make arrangements for it to be displayed at DCON.

A Best of Show from a committee appointed by the Awards Chair will be awarded.

The ‘People’s Choice’ will be awarded based on votes by DCON attendees.

Distinguished Awards:

Distinguishing Club Criteria (Club must be at Charter Strength (15 members)): To be considered for this award the Club must have meet 7 of the 10 criteria listed below, and accomplishments need to have been recorded by 9/30/2023 through the club secretary’s online report to qualify.:

Inspiration – KI Family: The club sponsored or co-sponsored a new Kiwanis, CKI, Key Club, Builders, or K-Kids club.

Inspiration – Networking: The club networked with either another Kiwanis club in their Division or with a local service partner to undertake a project benefiting youth.

Inspiration – Interclub: The club networked with another Kiwanis club or SLP club through an Interclub visit.

Impact — Local Community Service: The club provided at least 20 hours of hands-on service per member during the year for children in the community

Impact – Service Leadership Programs: The club sponsored a Service Leadership Partner or contributed $150 to a sponsored youth programs.

Image – Recognition and Branding:

  1. There has been an increase in name recognition and branding through media coverage (newspaper, Facebook, Twitter), and
  2. The club developed or continued a signature project

Investment — Local Financial Viability: The club has a plan to raise administrative funds from sources other than dues.

Investment — Financial Stewardship: The club provided financial support to the Southwest District Foundation or KI Children’s fund.

Submission does not guarantee an award. All awards are at the discretion of the Governor.

  1. Trained Coach: Division has at least one trained Club Coach
  2. Governor Visit: Division held an Official Governors Visit at a Division Council Meeting (DCM)
  3. Open New Clubs: One new Kiwanis Club or Kiwanis Club satellite opened, or have a net membership gain of 2 members, or open a new SLP
  4. Deliver Kiwanis Education: 100% of club presidents and secretaries received CLE training virtually, in-person or KI training.
  5. Support our Service Leadership Partners: Lt. Governor attended a K-Family Service Project and CKI and Key Club leadership are invited to all the Division Council meetings and have a place on the agenda.

The Division must have hit four of the criteria listed above to be a Distinguished Division

Five Star Award

The District shall recognize Clubs whose members participate in District affairs by attending District meetings and events.
To be eligible for the award each club should have been represented by at least one member of their club at:

1. Governor Alma’s official visit to your division.
2. The Virtual Mid-Year Conference
3. The District Convention In Tucson, AZ
4. International Convention in Minneapolis, MN
5. A Division Council Meeting (DCM) other than the one held during the governor’s visit to their division.

This form should be completed by the Division Lt. Governor.
